Inspired by Fashion: Creative Reuse at the PMA!

Fiber artist Eric Anthony Berdis recently shared his creative reuse talents to inspire these capes made with patches designed by Eric and reclaimed materials at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Family Festival!

The Family Festival took place on the Pay What You Wish Sunday at the museum in December. Visitors and their families were invited to participate in this workshop inspired by Philadelphia Museum of Art’s exhibit Fabulous Fashion: From Dior’s New Look to Now. The exhibit features “how designers have used color and pattern, shape and volume, draping, metallics, and embellishments to continually reinvent the art form.”

“Family Festivals showcase local and nationally recognized performance groups for an experience that combines the magic of the visual and performing arts. The Balcony Studio features art projects inspired by artwork in the Museum’s collections.”

“We used a mix of materials including patches designed by Eric as well as recycled materials from the Resource Exchange.” Caitlin Deutsch, Coordinator of Family Studio Programs at the PMA, found reclaimed materials at the RE including remnants of ribbon, shiny embellishments, fabric trim, and stencils.

Thank you to Caitlin Deutsch, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Eric Anthony Berdis for using reclaimed materials to inspire these magical creations and for encouraging families to discover the world of art together!
