Garbage World + The Resource Exchange

These wooden structures, donated by The Walnut Street Theatre, were once the flooring support for many of their Mainstage season shows.  Now they have a new life in the local performance art series, Garbage World.

Eileen has been curating Garbage World since 2009, when it was started in Chicago.  She says, “Overall, the principles behind The Resource Exchange inspired me to rethink how I’d plan exhibitions.  Part of my focus was on what would happen to materials after everything was taken down.  As an artist, I’ve been guilty of wasting a lot of materials and chucking things in the dumpster without much thought. For something of this scale, I cannot let myself be wasteful.”

Eileen says, “I found salvaged theater sets that were perfect for my plans.  It’s great that I’m now completing a cycle of reuse that also supports an organization that overall is keeping tons of materials out of the landfill.”  Eileen also plans on donating the materials that are used back to the Resource Exchange after the events!
