Heidi Barr

Heidi Barr is a Philadelphia based artist working in costume design and mixed media community based installation art. She holds a BFA in dance from Cornish College of the Arts and is a 2004 Leeway foundation Window of Opportunity grant recipient. A former professional dancer turned successful costume designer, she has created costumes for countless choreographic works by many notable choreographers. Equaling her lifelong commitment to dance and the costumes it inspires, is Heidi’s passion for gardening and her attention to environmental issues. This has inspired her current work with site specific, outdoor sculpture created with communities, celebrating urban gardening. Heidi is partnering with The East Park Revitalization Alliance (EPRA) to create an installation with residents of the surrounding neighborhood for EPRAs’ Apple festival at Woodford Mansion this coming October. Heidi also creates ‘the kitchen garden series’. A line of kitchen textiles made from reclaimed materials and sold to support urban gardens. The reMade towels are available for sale at The Resource Exchange! Learn more about the project on the website. Heidi’s reCreate Workshop, held in the gallery space of our store, is Pattern Making Basics, where she instructs participants to make patterns from favorite garments and sew them with reclaimed materials.
