Thanks to our wonderful group of volunteers: Erica and Matt Katz-Hall, Mike Galvin, Maddie Hewitt, Flora Vassar, Craig Stephen, Bill Gerred, Roberto Roque, Steve Sysko, Bruce Wrigley, Michael Lienhard, Ronnie, and board member Dennis Madigan our first moving weekend went by in a flash! Movie guys Paul Williams and Paul Maiello lent their giant Houdini Industries truck to us, so that we could move our largest and heaviest pieces of scenery, shelving, and tables.  Friendly teamster volunteer Ronnie even drove it for us!  moving train car

We were able to get some of the most iconic Resource Exchange items that were in our dock to the new space, like the train car from The Walnut Street Theatre, and the giant umbrellas from The Flower Show.

Then on Monday volunteers braved the cold and joined the re staff in cleaning and clearing the new building. The previous tenants of the space at 2nd and Cecil B. Moore left behind large piles of furniture, e-waste, and some unfinished remodeling projects, so there was certainly a lot of work to be done.

It was so cold in there this week, though, that the water froze coming out of the faucet!  YIPES, what brave volunteers we have!

We salvaged what we could at the new space and gathered the rest of the material into a truck so we could take it to our recycling partner, Revolution Recovery. Everyone came to Revolution to lend a hand emptying the truck full of recyclable materials.

It was a long day, so we may have been a little loopy by the time we got to Revolution…

WAIT!!! There’s still a whole lot of stuff to move, though, and there are various ways you can help!  We’re still open until the 26th at Cedar Street, so come by the store and take advantage of our Heavy Sale so that we have less to move at the end of the month.  E-mail us at info@theresourceexchange.org if you’re interested in volunteering time and or vehicle.  Or donate funding online, moving can be an expensive process, especially for a small non-profit, no amount is too little.
