Other Desert Cities is playing right now at The Walnut Street Theatre. Not only is it a great play featuring a fantastic cast, but the set includes materials found at The Resource Exchange! Knowing that he had to cover the entire back wall of the set in rectangular muslin, Dan, the technical director, called us to see if we had any amount of muslin to which he might be able to give a second life. It just so happened that we had tons of it thanks to a film that was shot in Philly last year. Here’s the Walnut’s paint crew painting the stretched reclaimed muslin.
And there it is on set at The Walnut providing the window like backdrop for the upstage wall of the house.
Part of our mission is to provide a place for the Philly theatre community to both donate and purchase reusable materials in an effort to reduce the waste stream of the local entertainment industry. While we have many smaller theatre companies buy from us, having The Walnut as both a donor and a customer is a sign that always purchasing new materials instead of salvaged is not a necessity, even for the big Philadelphia theaters. Special thanks to Dan for thinking of us. You can still see Other Desert Cities until March 2nd!
