Missionary in Manhattan reMADE patchwork American Flag!

Flora does is again! Our former staff member and volunteer extraordinaire reMAKES this enormous American flag out of fabric pieces she found at our $1/lb fabric sale. What’s it for, you may ask? It’s a performance called Missionary in Manhattan: A Mormon Musical. Sound familiar? It’s because the company Ukulele Orchestra of Great Brooklyn performed it in NYC last year with a flag made of reclaimed paint and muslin from The Resource Exchange.  For this set of performances Flora wanted the flag to look a little more home made, like the characters had sewn it together themselves, so she decided to patchwork it.

“Missionary in Manhattan is the story of three polygamist pop stars on the hunt for their brother husband, Charles Gregory Howard, who was last seen doing missionary work at the Cubby Hole. Ukuleles in tow, Sister Gretchen, Sister Fanny, and Sister Bunny Catherine will turn pop songs into “God songs,” lament, and stop at nothing to track down the father of their seven children…who may or may not have left them for his vocal coach, Gerard.”

In the New York area? You can still see this critically acclaimed performance.  They have one performance left at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Chelsea on Wednesday March 26 at 8pm. Find out more about it and buy tickets here.
