New Hope Academy does it again! Dave Boyd and the students at New Hope put on an amazing, colorful, and reclaimed production of Hairspray!
Dave has come to the re for reused and affordable scenery and building supplies for 3 productions at New Hope. In the past they repurposed lumber from Simpatico Theatre Project for their Fiddler on the Roof set and theatrical flats donated from The Walnut Street Theatre for the set of Cheaper by the Dozen. This time Dave was able to find a bunch of reclaimed 2x3s, faux brick, an ironing board, some crazy 60’s fabric, and much more to help build and decorate the set of their spring production of Hairspray. Dave uses our materials not only to build the sets, but to teach the students who help him build them about recycling, reuse, and creativity in theatrical design.
Not only did New Hope reuse our salvaged building materials in their set, but after the curtain closed they donated reusable materials back to us! Dave and the re staff even worked together to take some of the set pieces apart right outside of The Resource Exchange. We have two pieces of this freestanding stage jail and a whole bunch of brightly painted lauan sheets (only painted on one side) in the store now!
