Our reCreate Featured Artist of November, Joy Waldinger, taught a workshop on Science, Art, and Insect Prints in our in-store Gallery on Sunday, November 2nd.
Participants were encouraged to link science and art through the process of studying and rendering insects.
Everyone observed insects from an actual insect collection as well as from books. Then participants drew insect forms on reclaimed pieces of rubber tile that they then cut reliefs into to make stamps. The class was able to use their new stamps to print on salvaged papers and fabrics from The Resource Exchange.
We still have plenty of these orange tiles available at the re. We learned at the workshop that they’re perfect for stamp cutting! They’re only $0.50 each!
We also had a blast with Joy at her gallery opening on First Friday!
You can still see Joy’s own work featured in the reCreate Gallery throughout the month of November. Her insect and other prints, framed, lose, and on fabrics, are available for sale as well!
