Did you know that local educators have brought their classes on field trips to The Resource Exchange? We’ve had students of various ages and disciplines here at the store learning about creative reuse and how it relates to their studies.

Most recently we were delighted to host a group from Moore College’s “Fashion Restyle” class which is part of the Young Artist’s Workshop, a program that enables students in grades 1-12 to enroll in an array of creative courses taught by Moore College teachers. Instructor Kim Rosner brought her class to The Resource Exchange for recreative  inspiration. In the “Fashion Restyle” course, students focused on a balance between art and creativity by making garments with reuse at the forefront of their designs. While at the re, the students were instructed to walk around the store and find interesting and salvaged items that usually wouldn’t be found in fashion designs. Then the students met in our reCreate Gallery and workshop space to sketch out garment designs that were centered around the unusual and reclaimed items found in the store.

Some students picked seashells, beads, feathers, hardware, or office supplies, and found ways to creatively incorporated these salvaged items into their new designs.
