Local artist, Alia Tahvildaran, Has work in a solo exhibition at The Arts Center Gallery of Germantown Academy, using material purchased from our store!
This piece of artwork is part of a solo show titled “Long Distance مسافت طولانی ” on view now through March 13th.
“I used the fabric samples I got at the Resource Exchange in an art installation titled Immigration Story. I wanted to replicate the feel of an ethereal garden to go alongside a large piece of artwork that resemble doors. Sewn with the help of friend and fiber artist Marian Hargadon, the sheer, lightweight linen designer samples I found were the perfect solution.”
“The fabric doors and garden are based on the beautiful, French doors that faced a lush, garden courtyard in a family home in the city of Karaj, Iran. The doors are also a symbol of my father’s immigration from Iran to the United States. In a time of civility lost and heightened xenophobia, I feel the call to share such stories.”
