Creative Community Project: Reclaimed Lumber Planters

Creative reuse is in full swing this summer! Our amazing creative community has been sending us so many photos of outdoor greening projects made with reclaimed resources from the re! Today we’re excited to featured this project from Philadelphia Scenic Works (PSW) and Interfaith Philadelphia!

The Crafting Community Project (CCP) from Interfaith Philadelphia is a collaborative, neighborhood-rooted initiative that provides intergroup art and educational programs, and builds relationships and solidarity across line of difference and divide.

This CCP utilized lumber saved from a film set to build community planters. The Kensington community was invited to come paint and decorate a planter and get a planter stater kit for free!

“We turned that lumber into planter boxes that we built for a Interfaith Philadelphia project that they in turn donated to local Kensington businesses!”

-Nathan Renner-Johnson, PSW Board President

Kevin Hoover, PSW Shop Foreman, found the perfect material for this project through our online shop–  Black Scenic-Painted Lumber 2×4’s! The scenic-painted lumber was donated to The Resource Exchange, and therefore, diverted from landfill by a major television production. Thank you PSW and Interfaith Philadelphia for giving this reclaimed material a second life!
