While the team at Character Translations are busy creating incredible mascots and creatures, like Gritty and Phang, they’re also mindful of the materials they use, and how their excess materials can be kept out of local landfills.
Caitlin Peck from Character Translations reached out to The Resource Exchange looking for a sustainable option to downsize their collection of faux fur fabrics and we were excited to help!
“I am local to Philadelphia and I love visiting your site for my own personal supplies and projects and thought the Resource Exchange would be a great place to donate our fabrics. We would love to see these fabrics gain new life in other artists’ creations!”
Each year, The Resource Exchange diverts ten of thousands of pounds of reclaimed material, including fabric and textiles, away from local landfill and redirects them to local artists, makers, educators, and builders where they are then reused in countless creative projects.
Local artists and makers have picked up faux fur remnants from our shop, deciding to shop secondhand first, for materials to create their projects– Halloween costumes, home and clothing sewing projects, live action role playing garments, photo backdrops, and more!
Caitlin Peck made these incredible animal masks using the same faux fur remnants from Character Translations. The masks were made using a pattern from Lapa Studios, building out of cardboard, and covering with the material.
The Rabbit Mask was recently used in a photoshoot by Sarah Robertson as part of a creative experience weekend for content creators called Fernweh Experience.
