Donor Spotlight: The Handwork Studio

The Handwork Studio provides summer camps in the Greater Philadelphia Area for kids exploring handwork through experiential learning such as fiber arts, machine sewing, robotics, and more.

While organizing their warehouse and other storage spaces they came across a large amount felt fabric rolls and gently used scissors– so much more than their campers alone could ever use!

Rachel Hunsinger, Assistant Camp Director of The Handwork Studio, reached out to The Resource Exchange so that these great materials could be made available to our community of artists, makers, and educators!

In 2017, more than 63 million pounds of textiles were sent to landfill in Philadelphia. Even though this is a massive problem- donations like this give us hope!

Last year, The Resource Exchange saw over 7,400 pounds of fabric and textiles donated for reuse instead of being landfilled– nearly 2x more than any other year!

Check out the bulk scissors and felt by the yard and by the roll now available in-store and online!

Felt available for $1 per yard and by the roll
Thank you to The Handwork Studio and Rachel Hunsinger for seeing the potential for creative reuse and for freeing these great materials from storage!
This generous donation will enable countless creative projects to be made with affordable reclaimed materials.
