Audra Wolfe is a West Philadelphia-based weaver and fiber artist. As a lifelong knitter but relatively new weaver, she is fascinated by the possibilities of spinning and weaving for repurposing once-discarded fibers. Threads from two oddball yarn cones, combined as warp and weft, create surprising textures and patterns in cloth. Loom waste combined with wool reclaimed from old sweaters becomes new yarn. Old clothes become rugs. Audra’s work incorporates pre-consumer textile waste, mill ends, and thrifted materials, as well as new cotton, wool, and rayon. What started as a cost-efficient strategy to build a fiber studio has become a sensibility for finding beauty in what’s left behind.
