Grue Shackelford

A native West Virginian, Grue graduated from West Virginia University in 2009, receiving a BFA in studio art and a BA in art history, and In 2012 they graduated from Northern Illinois University with an MFA in printmaking. Grue is currently a member of the Beckley Arts Center, The Center for Emerging Artists, and has exhibited their work internationally in both group and solo exhibitions. In 2021, selections of their work published by Lily Press were acquired as part of the Library of Congress’ permanent collection.

Aside from working with Lily Press, Grue has also collaborated with Cannon Press and Evil Prints. Their work has also been published in Fiber Arts Now and they have led workshops at California University of Pennsylvania, West Virginia University, and The Resource Center, Philadelphia. From 2017 to 2020 they were the gallery coordinator for The Alchemist Society in Philadelphia, working with numerous artists in the city and organizing monthly shows. Currently they serve on the art committee for the William Way Community Center in Philadelphia.

In 2021, Grue started Ill Wind Studios – looking to expand their work to include fiber art and ultimately integrate multiple mediums into their studio practice.
