“This work explores how abstraction accesses emotional responses. It is so ambiguous in nature as to allow the space for unexpected and dynamic reactions – none of which built in by me, in message or narrative. Each viewer carries a unique emotional history, and the collection of colors, textures, and images in these works will result in different responses for each person. They aim to trigger nostalgia, unearth demons and make you wonder.
To channel this force into physical art objects requires of me a kind of submission to chaos. I ask the universe to bring me stuff and it does, and in turn I do something to it and then do something else to it. I give in to my intuition and trust fully in my ability to pull off whatever new experiment in materials seems right. Even if I fail, I have not wasted any time worrying about failing.
Of course, as the artist, much of me ends up in these pieces – I am a collector of these materials of our species, endlessly fascinated with the visual landscape around me, and my artwork is a way of synthesizing and sharing my experiences.”
