Maddie Hewitt

Maddie Hewitt earned a BFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art. She is interested in themes surrounding cultural history, crowd behavior, and the impact humans have on the physical world. While not tied to a particular medium, Hewitt’s recent work explores these ideas primarily through collage and photography. She collects low budget and recycled images available in the public sphere that represent a mutual aspiration, disposition and political agenda; some  of these images retain their original context and some are paired with original photographs. As a curatorial member at Little Berlin she seeks to organize exhibitions and film screenings that examine our past and present to foster new opinions that people can invest in for the future. Hewitt has received the Edith Weil Hecht Memorial Award as well as the Harry and Esther Rosen Honorarium. She lives and works in Philadelphia, and also enjoys volunteering at The Resource Exchange.
