“Did you Ever Really Sea Me? is an ode to my childhood self for when I was unable to stand up or answer truthfully. As we grow, the world teaches us to conceal our differences, but as we become older, we yearn to reconnect with our core and true selves. This piece explores the uncomfortable experiences with relatives and acquaintances who have never fully grasped my true identity. It delves into the meaning of when someone says that you have changed and serves as both a response and a reflection. Ultimately, the message conveyed by those who question whether we have changed is a reminder that they never truly saw us for who we are. This piece was made from fabric napkins and screenprinted with ink purchased from The Resource Exchange.”
