Just in: 20 more sheets of homasote reclaimed from a film set!
Remember homasote? We’ve featured it on the blog before, because it’s something you’ll almost always find at The Resource Exchange. Homasote is actually a brand name, but the name has come to be synonymous with cellulose fiber wall board. It is similar to medium-density fiberboard [MDF], but instead of being comprised of wood particles and formaldehyde resins, homasote is an FSC certified material made with 98% recycled paper and wax. With nearly twice the R-value of wood, it makes great insulation for temperature and sound. Film and theatre productions donate it, then buy it back the next time around. Last year, our homasote was used during the 2012 Philly Fringe Festival in Theatre Drapeau Rose’s Crave.
It’s also perfect for use in a classroom, office, or artist studio as display and bulletin boards. Several local musicians (like John Manhardt, below) use it for practice rooms and recording studios because of its sound-deadening properties.
You can buy it new for almost $30 a sheet, or gently used at RE for just $14!
