Our friend Monica Manklang, Director of Marketing and Strategy at Generocity, invited us to meet with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society representatives to talk about sustainability and saving material from the Philadelphia Flower Show. Here’s Karyn, our ED, with PHS Operations Manager Bob Felke and Senior Vice President of Shows and Events Sam Lemheney.
While short notice made it hard to save material from this year’s Flower Show, we’re looking forward to working with PHS to develop a strategy for material reclamation for next year’s show. But we did get to visit the convention center as the show came down, and we were able to save some material.
That’s a big umbrella for a little truck! We saved two pink umbrellas from designers Robin and David Heller of the Flowers by David exhibit [click here for a review and pictures]. Thanks to Jaime Zucker, Brand Manager at PHS, we were able to save more than scenery; these foam core and plastic signs are now on our shelves, waiting to be repurposed!
We were even able to save this firewood!
Many thanks to the folks at PHS [and you too, Monica!] for opening the conversation! We’re very excited to work to make sure that all the great materials from next year’s Flower Show make it into the hands of Philadelphia’s creative types for reuse.
