Opera Macabre: Edgar Allan Poe opens this Friday the 13th at 8pm as a part of Philly Fringe!  Our friends at The Philadelphia Opera Collective picked up loads of supplies at the store to prop their original opera.  The POC designed parts of their show based on what we had in store, instead of buying specific items new.  They use props like glasses, a decanter, and a wooden stretcher, as well as black fabric for framing the stage, red fabric to represent fire, and gray fabric to ‘build a wall.’  The second act of the opera is a retelling of Poe’s short story “The Black Cat,” featuring puppets made by Jordan Mottram and the Resource Exchange’s reCreate featured artist of September, Alison Mae Hoban.  The puppet team used salvaged carboard to make mock ups of the puppets for rehearsals, and the actual production puppets entirely from black foam core from our store!

Go see Opera Macabre: Edgar allan Poe only playing for 5 performances!

Enter the world of the original master of suspense, Edgar Allan Poe. Opera Macabre brings Poe’s classics to life with chilling suspense and lurid language. Philadelphia Opera Collective takes on another American storyteller with their signature approach to opera that is both accessible and visceral.

Can’t make it to this show?  See members of The Philadelphia Opera Collective sing selections from Opera Macabre and other unsettling songs AT THE RESOURCE EXCHANGE on Thursday, October 17th from 5-9 as a part of Design Philly!  Check back to our blog and Facebook later this month for more information!
