Greg Maughan, Founder and Executive Director of Philly Improv Theater found The Resource Exchange when searching for an alternative to landfill. PHIT recently gained access to a new rehearsal space, an exciting expansion for the company, but not one without added effort. When Greg opened the doors to the space they will be rehearsing in, it was filled with older set and construction materials. But instead of just hauling it all to a dumpster, he contacted us.
Greg drove by our store with a van full of things he thought might be useful to other artists and builders in the city. With PHIT we were able to save two pieces of drywall that are like new, two full sheets of lauan that are only painted on one side, two 9 1/2′ x 3′ black fabric covered scenic flats, and two sets of vinyl siding. The things that we weren’t able to save for reuse wasn’t just thrown into landfill either. Immediately after visiting the re, Greg drove over to our recycling partners, Revolution Recovery, to prevent the leftover recyclable construction debris from going into landfill.
Thanks to Greg for looking into greener solutions for the challenges of making theater in Philadelphia!
