When Flashpoint Theater Company needed a greener solution to stuffing a bunch of mattresses for a set, they came to us! Their show, The Most Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington by Philly’s James Ijames is using bags full of our scrap, hard to use, oddly shaped, and teeny tiny pieces of fabric to stuff the characters’ beds. Alice Yorke decided to use our reclaimed fabric scraps for the job instead of buying new stuffing.
Here’s a description of this world premiere show from their website:
The recently-widowed “Mother of America” lies helpless in her Mount Vernon bed, ravaged by illness and cared for by the very slaves that are free the moment she dies. The fever dream of terrifying theatricality that follows investigates everything from Martha Washington’s family to her historical legacy. This world premiere by Barrymore Award winner James Ijames explores the true complexities of America’s original sin.
