Steppingstone Scholar Doreen decided to complete her final senior project here. While at The Resource Exchange Doreen was able to expand upon the work she did here last summer. Not only did she help us sort and track donations, but she assisted customers, talked to people in the store about our mission, helped with our social media and marketing, sat in on a fundraising meeting with a board member, and explored workshop coordination and project proposals.

Her senior project titled “Confessions of a Non-profit Eco Geek” focused on gathering creative reuse information and finding ways to get other young people involved. Doreen said, “I want to address why reuse is important and provide resources and information for simple changes they can make to help the environment. Teens need to know exactly why pollution is an important topic as well as what they can directly do to help. I also want to show what is possible to create with reusable material.” Doreen also attended our workshop “reDiscovering Paper Mache and Collage” lead by May reCreate Featured Artist Maddie Hewitt, and used the techniques she learned to collage together her senior project presentation.
