Earth Day Updates from the re!

Happy Earth Day! While every day is Earth Day here at the re, we would like to take today to share some of our biggest donations and highlights from the passed year. From film and theatre sets, local individual and business donations, and a huge warehouse clean-out, we have diverted 9,555 pounds from landfills and incinerators so far in 2016 alone!

Since last Earth Day, we’ve received many large donations, including some fantastic vintage stoves and other vintage housewares and appliances from a major motion picture shoot in NYC. From the set of Creed we got housewares, lumber, and our beloved original painting of Rocky!

From the Arden Theatre Company, various film shoots, and a local renovation project, we saved hundreds of pounds of framing lumber, sheet goods, and other salvaged lumber from landfill.

Here is a photo of the re and Arden teams hard at work loading planks of poplar saved from their production of “Equivocation”…

Also, from Villanova Theatre, we recently received custom made scenery pieces that are incredibly unique and can be used as light boxes!

Our largest donation of arts and crafts supplies came from a huge warehouse clean-out. We’ve seen many awesome projects get made with these reclaimed materials and are always excited when our customers share photos of their work. There’s still plenty of these art supplies left, so get here and get inspired to reCreate your own project!

Donations play a huge role in what we do here at the re. We are thankful that there are so many like minded folks in Philly that see the value in donating and reclaiming materials for creative reuse!

Also, since the last Earth Day, The Resource Exchange became a member of Climate and Urban Systems Partnership. CUSP helps city residents understand collective responses to climate change impacts, why those responses are important, and how to become involved in systems-level solutions. You can learn more about CUSP and visit our booth as well as over 100 other exhibits and activities at “Climate City” at this month’s Philadelphia Science Carnival, Saturday April 30th, at Penn’s Landing!

Thanks to all our donors, customers, and friends that help us to continue our mission. Happy Earth Day!
